Week 6 (1st October - 6th October)

Updated: Nov 16, 2019

Hey guys it's Qin Yong once again. We started this week by going out with one of the friendly interns at CAS and visited his campus at York University. He brought us around the university town (the campus is HUGE), showing us the different blocks and buildings of interest.

There was a huge library at the campus as well.

Thereafter, we headed to have lunch at an Indian Restaurant in the campus. One thing that really stunned me was the size of the University Town, it covers a vast area of land and is definitely bigger than any university towns in Singapore. After lunch, our friend brought us back to the entrance as he headed back for class.

It was about 5pm when we left York University for downtown yet again. This time we headed to Eaton Centre where we got to see the Yonge-Dundas Square.

We decided to eat at a nearby Santosei Ramen branch after walking around for a bit. After dinner, we then headed to AGO ( Art Gallery of Ontario ) where you can find famous paintings of well known artists the likes of Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and many others. AGO does have free admissions on Wednesday nights which was another reason why we decided to head there. Do look out for the fourth floor where you get a stunning view of Toronto!

After AGO, we decided to head back and end the day there.

The week passed by uneventfully as we continued working. This was the last week with our teachers before they fly off back to Singapore.

On Saturday, Hugo and I went to the ROM ( Royal Ontario Museum ). ROM is different from AGO as AGO is mostly art while ROM focuses more on general history all over the world.

While ROM is a bit more pricey than AGO, ROM is definitely bigger and it took us around 4-5 hours to explore the whole museum. It covers topics and cultures from all over the world and has an extensive collection of historical items. The museum also provides free guided tours at several timings throughout the day, so do look at for that. One thing to note is that you can get cheaper tickets if you buy youth tickets (15-19 yo) instead of adult tickets.

After visiting the museum, we headed to Nathan Phillips Square for Nuit Blanche. Nuit Blanche is an art festival that involves the installment of over 90 art projects all over downtown Toronto. We reached there around 6pm and waited for the festival to kick off.

They closed many streets and roads around the Square for people to walk around. Even with no vehicles or traffic, it was still pretty crowded.

Everything kicked off at night as Hugo and I went exploring around downtown ( art projects were situated at different areas in downtown Toronto - a lot of walking and navigation, do get the map at the info counter! ). All of the art projects was free and queues were long as people waited to look at the fantastic projects.

After visiting the last art installment at 9:30pm, we decided to head back home as we needed to catch the last bus at Warden. And that concludes this week of fun in Toronto! See you next week where head towards somewhere far away from home :)
