Week 9 (21st October - 27th October)

Hey it's Qin yong here. It's week 9 and we noticed that the trees are starting to have no leaves, and those that do have a dark red/orange shade to it. Here are a couple of pictures of our changing environment in Canada.

Aside from the slow start to the week, we also got the opportunity to attend a talk about quantum computing for the 21st century. The talk was quite interesting as it provided a short introduction on the basics of quantum computing, why it is so powerful compared to classical computers and a timeline of quantum computers. They also had a small spread of snacks to munch on during the talk!

Be sure to check your company email as well as posters on the wall/dashboard across the office and you'll find many fun talks and events you can participate in!

As we continued working throughout the week, Aunty Carrie and her husband was very kind to invite us to spend our weekend with them. We agreed to their kind offer as they were very keen to show us around.

On Saturday, she brought us to a place called Case Woodlot - a short but incredibly beautiful nature trail. Canada is the place to go if you are a fan of nature, it has many many trails scattered all over and you should definitely go for a few of these trails. ( To explore possible trails there are websites for it https://www.alltrails.com/canada/ )

Aunty Carrie brought along her dog and we met up with her friends and went for the trail.

Canada is truly a magnificient place with amazing biodiversity and strong ecosystems.

After the trail in the afternoon, Aunty Carrie treated us to a sumptuous dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Afterwards, we headed off to a house to meet Aunty Carrie's bible study group as she enthusiastically insisted that we join her. They were really welcoming and even prepared many snacks for everyone to enjoy while conducting the bible study.

Herbal tea, fruits, nuts, chips and even a delicious beancurd dessert! Thanks Aunty Carrie!!

While Hugo and I were not Christians, we really appreciated the session as it gave us an insight into the culture and lives of people living in Canada.

After the short session with Aunty Carrie's friends, we headed back home.

On Sunday, we decided to spend the morning and afternoon at home to complete some work. During the evening, Aunty Carrie kindly asked if we wanted to join her to meet her son who was studying in Western University. The University was located in London ( a city in Ontario ). We decided to join her as we had no plans ourselves.

Along the way to the University, we stopped by a park and took quite a few pictures of the surrounding architecture in London.

As you can see, the park was scattered with beautiful maple leaves and we could not resist picking a few up as souvenirs to bring back home!

Afterwards, we met up with Aunty Carrie's son and went ahead to have dinner with him. Again, Aunty Carrie was super nice and treated us to a delicious dinner at a chinese restaurant.

After dinner, Aunty Carrie's son drove us around the campus at Western University. The campus was big and spanned across a large area.

The campus was well built and had very good student facilities. I have no doubt that Aunty Carrie's son enjoys his time in the campus. After that, we went back home to rest for the upcoming week. That's all for week 9! See you again next week! :)
